Davies Orchard Restoration
Coming soon: the story of how a committed group of Island residents literally stopped the bulldozers and preserved Davies Heritage Orchard for future generations. Saving and restoring the cottages as well as returning ancient apple trees to productivity. Finding just the right people to advise and assist us; restoring the sunlight to the Orchard and then going on to plant new trees of the original, heritage species. Finding the heritage floral plants lurking in the old, overgrown gardens and realizing that Mr. Davies knew all about attracting pollinators to his orchard. Finding the volunteers and raising the funds necessary to maintain the Orchard through the long, hot summers; making maps and brochures to help explain the importance of these trees to visitors; sharing and appreciating the fruit with the whole community annually at Applefest.
